Haus R, Kernen im Remstal

Residential house in the village center - In the small community of Kernen in the Remstal, a new residential building has to be built next to the parental home for a young family. On the extremely scarce plot in the center of the new building replaces a barn, which was previously grown directly to the old residential building. Accordingly, the new house again fits perfectly to the stock. The basic form is created by doubling and mirroring the existing building. The simple volume with a pitched roof is adapted to the requirements of the client through targeted stretching and distortion.

Promenade architecturale

On the ground floor next to the garage and a granny flat place, a small, well usable garden remains. The entrance hall with cloakroom measures the entire depth to the garden side, from there a staircase leads upstairs to bedroom and children's rooms on the first floor. Via another staircase, you change direction and reach the spacious, open living area on the top floor. A roof terrace is cut into the volume, from here it offers a wide view over the village to the Remstal. It also ensures a generous exposure of the living room and the open kitchen. Otherwise, only a few large openings give a framed view to the outside.

Adapted foreign body

While the new building takes its form back and adapts to the environment, the abstract homogeneous surface, which runs over the walls and roof, provides for the necessary distance and the desired autonomy. The house sets by its appearance a contemporary sign in an outdated environment.
